The element Bromine (Br) is located
in the earth’s crust and in the sea in many chemical forms. It is a dangerous
chemical that attacks directly to the skin and tissues. This chemical needs to
be monitored and checked before being used. If it is not checked the person can be badly
poisoned. Controlled bromine is used for many purposes; one of them is being
used as a water sanitizer.
Well like Chlorine,
Bromine kills the bacteria located in the water. It is a good and recommended
alternative of the chlorine but has a big disadvantage; Bromine is the slowest
acting disinfecting power which makes it unpopular to use in large pools.
It is mostly used for
spas, hot tubs and indoor pools because it reacts to sunlight and it is more
stable in higher temperatures. Also since Bromine is one of the slowest
disinfectants when it comes to large swimming pools it generates problems to
the swimmers by leaving a medicinal harsh taste, sometimes it creates a green
foam due to the swimmers movements, and after being in the pool for a while it
becomes hard to wash off from your skin, but helps the swimmer by not leaving such
a bad and intense odor like chlorine does, and not as many people are allergic
to Bromine like they are of Chlorine.
